Updated Study Field Accreditation Schedule

In accordance with the amendments to the Higher Education Law of April 24, 2020, “Amendments to the Higher Education Law” (effective from May 9, 2020), the study field accreditation schedule has been updated for those fields to be accredited in 2019.

The mentioned law establishes a timeline for the accreditation of study fields in the transitional provisions of the Higher Education Law, meaning that the accreditation period is extended until a decision is made regarding the accreditation or refusal to accredit a study field, but not later than the date set in paragraph 48 of these provisions.

New accreditation certificates are not required, as the deadlines are specified in the law:

  1. The accreditation period for the study fields “Psychology,” “Law,” “Economics,” “Information and Communication Sciences,” and “Management, Administration, and Real Estate Management” is extended until a decision is made regarding the accreditation or refusal to accredit the study field, but no later than June 30, 2021;
  2. The accreditation period for the study fields “Mechanical Engineering and Metal Processing, Thermal Power Engineering, Heating Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering,” “Energy, Electrical Engineering, and Electrical Technology,” “Manufacturing and Processing,” “Architecture and Construction,” “Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Veterinary Medicine, and Food Hygiene,” “Healthcare,” and “Social Welfare” is extended until a decision is made regarding the accreditation or refusal to accredit the study field, but no later than June 30, 2022;
  3. The accreditation period for the study fields “Arts,” “Religion and Theology,” “History and Philosophy,” “Geography and Earth Sciences,” “Life Sciences,” “Chemistry, Chemical Technology, and Biotechnology,” “Physics, Materials Science, Mathematics, and Statistics,” and “Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Control, and Computer Science” is extended until a decision is made regarding the accreditation or refusal to accredit the study field, but no later than June 30, 2023;
  4. The accreditation period for the study fields “Education, Pedagogy, and Sports,” “Language and Culture Studies, Native Language Studies, and Language Programmes,” “Translation,” “Sociology, Political Science, and Anthropology,” “Hotel and Restaurant Services, Tourism and Recreation Management,” “Transport Services,” “Environmental Protection,” “Internal Security and Civil Protection,” and “Military Defense” is extended until a decision is made regarding the accreditation or refusal to accredit the study field, but no later than June 30, 2024.

In accordance with the Cabinet of Ministers’ Order No. 103 of March 12, 2020, “On the Declaration of an Emergency Situation,” to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus, we inform you that the Academic Information Centre (AIC) / Higher Education Quality Agency (AIKA) has indefinitely postponed all planned expert visits for study field evaluations.

AIKA representatives will contact each university/college separately, with which agreements were made regarding the study field evaluation, and an expert visit was planned.

Additionally, we inform you that, considering the Cabinet of Ministers’ order and its consequences, until the situation stabilizes, AIC will not enter into new agreements for study field evaluations.

However, the study programme licensing process will proceed as planned, with evaluation visits organized online if necessary.

We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience caused!
