The Law on Higher Education Institutions (amendments entered into force on 11.10.2022) stipulates that 60 credit points correspond to the learning outcomes achieved in one academic year of full-time studies in accordance with the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). One credit point corresponds to 25-30 hours of study work.
Previously, one credit point in Latvia was defined as the volume of the workload of one week full-time studies. When recalculating in ECTS credits, the number of Latvian credit points had to be multiplied by 1.5. The intended volume of the full-time studies for one academic year was 40 Latvian credits (60 ECTS).
