What is Europass?
Europass is a portfolio of five documents to make person’s skills and qualifications clearly and easily understood on the labour market and in education and training in Europe.
Europass brings together into a single framework several existing tools for the transparency of diplomas, certificates and competences. Helping citizens to better communicate and present their qualifications and skills throughout Europe, Europass promotes both occupational mobility, between countries as well as across sectors, and mobility for learning purposes.
Where to get more information on Europass?
Each European Union country has established a National Europass Centre (NEC), which coordinates all activities related to the implementation of the Europass initiative at the national level. The Latvian National Europass Centre is part of the Academic Information Centre.
What is the purpose of Europass?
- To provide everyone with the opportunity to present their knowledge, skills, and competencies in a structured and internationally understandable format, thereby enhancing the individual’s competitiveness;
- To facilitate and promote the mobility of European Union citizens within Europe for education and work purposes.
What are the tasks of the National Europass Centre?
- To ensure the availability of all Europass documents in both electronic and paper formats;
- To ensure the issuance and assignment of numbers for the Europass Mobility Certificate;
- To provide information and consultation; – To monitor developments at the European level and inform all relevant and interested parties;
- To prepare and distribute informational materials;
- To participate in and organize relevant events;
- To cooperate with the education and employment sectors.
What are the four Europass documents?

- Europass CV – a standardized Curriculum Vitae that can be filled out independently online and is available in 27 European languages.
- Europass Mobility – a certificate of the skills and competencies acquired during a specific period of organized learning or work experience exchange in another European country.
- Europass Diploma Supplement – an attachment to a higher education diploma providing detailed information about the completed study program. Since 2004, it has been issued by every higher education institution in Latvia to its graduates.
- Europass Certificate Supplement is attached to a certificate for vocational qualifications at the basic and upper-secondary education level. This document has not yet been introduced in Latvia.
Who can use Europass?
Any citizen of the European Union or European Union cooperation countries.

Starting from July 2020, Europass has a completely new look and a range of services! The new Europass tools and available information now allow for a new approach to managing and developing your career.
